Since yesterday morning it's been crazy to see all the damage that hurricane Sandy has done to the Northeast! It gives me chills to see how quickly a lot of people have lost everything. My area got very lucky and we barely had any damage, but certainly puts things in perspective. My own brother who lives close to the CT shore has lots of damage, lost his car, motorcycle, garage and his roof is damaged! But thankfully he and his expecting wife are OK! Still no power though, so if he does not get it back soon he will have to come stay with me or my mom! But all those things are replaceable, I'm just glad they are OK. So hopefully those of you affected can get the help you need in order to bring some normalcy back to your lives.

Today's outfit is featuring a polka dot tee and my super comfy knit blazer from the LOFT. Greyish colors, but added a little warmth with my natural tone boots.  I think I mentioned before that I like to wear a different color boots than my pants so they stand out more!   I very rarely will wear matching boots to my pants! Oh and Happy Halloween & Trick or treating.  Scroll down for a sneak peat at baby Emma's costume :)

I'm back at work at the office and swamped with work! Since I don't have much time for a full post today here a few pictures of my princess I took last weekend :) And thankfully made out OK in the big storm, and very surprisingly didn't even loose power (it did flicker on and off the whole time, but got very lucky!)

So it seems that once again we have a massive storm that might hit Connecticut starting today. Last year around this time we lost power for two weeks with a freak winter storm and Halloween had to be postponed in our neighborhood! So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we don't loose power because I will loose a whole lot of frozen milk if we do. Unfortunately we don't have a generator, even though we swore that after loosing power for such a extended period for sure we were suppose to get one. Well at least we're not close to the shore, so hopefully we'll be ok! The leaves have been absolutely gorgeous around here, but I think the winds that are predicted will rip the last of them off the trees so this past weekend I tried to get as much outside time as possible to enjoy the beautiful views! My outfit was inspired by the pretty fall colors all around. Paired my mustard jeans with a sparkly brownish/tannish over sized sweater (this sweater was great last fall when I was trying to hide my pregnancy!)

So so sooooo happy it's Friday and I've got absolutely nothing planned for this weekend! Looking forward to hanging out with my munchkin, and hopefully taking a few good pictures of her in her Halloween/ fall/ thanksgiving outfit.  I also gotta make some time to do some cute pictures in her Christmas outfit, so I can order my first ever picture postcards!!  I still wonder though if I should get it done professionally?  What do you guys do?  Take them yourself or get it done?   Today I'm wearing one of my all time favorite jackets that I got at the LOFT a few years ago. It has a pretty layered ruffle detail, and the color is a very natural dusty mauve!  I have worn this jacket with a black skirt for a more professional look, but can also be worn with a casual outfit like what I'm wearing today.  Paired it with my lace tee from Express & my chevron LOFT leggings.   I've been also getting a ton of use out of this simple express lace tee, it's such a natural easy color that matches just about anything! The leggings I love too and it was part of that shopping spree I posted about a few weeks back, but be warned:  mine started piling a little! Boooo!!  So even though I love it, I don't foresee it lasting past this season.  Have a fabulous weekend and don't forget to link up below!

So remember just a little over a week ago I posted about this GAP leather jacket? Well I decided to order it. And even though I like it, I realized that I will probably never feel comfortable wearing leather jackets, and therefore it's getting sent back! But I figured I will still post some pictures in case some of you are considering it. I'm 5'6" and about 120lbs, and purchased this in an XS. It's fits very well and is comfortable, but it's the most expensive coat/jacket I have EVER purchased, and considering the fact I'm just not comfortable in a leather jacket, it would be a waste of money for me to keep it. But the leather is beautiful and the quilted detail is really nicely done. The color is beautiful too! Excuse the outfit since it probably does not match very well, but I just threw it over the outfit I wore last weekend to a kids birthday party!

Today I'm wearing an over-sized poncho sweater I snagged up at the Loft a while back. This is actually one of those pieces that I did not like when I first saw online, but when I tried it on at the store, I had to have it! Sometimes it pays off to actually go into the store to look at the items, it can be hard to tell online what the item will look/feel like in person first. Since I'm a primarily online shopper, I bet sometimes I miss out on great items that do not have flattering pictures online, and vice versa: I order plenty of items that look nothing like the picture, and would probably never even consider it have I seen it in person. Still I love online shopping and I believe I get much better deals shopping online & save tons of time. This sweater is soft and warm and a nice neutral color. They also had it in black and purple, but I preferred this greyish tannish color the best. I belted it to give it a little shape, it looks a little wild not belted. For a little fun I added my star print jeans and boots!

{Belt} Really old, don't remember the brand name, but it's a cognac color 1/2 inch skinny belt, purchased in a larger size so it would loop nicely.

Happy Monday! I'm sure you are all just as excited as me to be back at work :). I told you guys that we had a big doctor's appointment last Friday and thankfully it went well!  Emma is very healthy, although still small in size. I actually thought she had caught up more, but she's only at 5% for weight and 3% for height!  But developmentally she is good!  So I guess that is what really most important.  But still I for sure thought she would be at least around the 15% mark!  But our doctor did say that since I'm on the slender side, she most likely she will stay on the lower side of the ranges for good!    Today's outfit is another item from my shopping spree. It's a gap contrast stripe tee, and I totally adore the contrast stripe detail with the body & sleeves! As mentioned on my shopping post, I did buy it in a tall size, since I wanted the length longer, more tunicky!

With the holiday season only about 2 months away,  I thought I share how I create a budget / shopping list!   I love my lists!!     Although I believe that Christmas is not about giving gifts I usually enjoy gifting to people that I care about. I think it's important to know your limits and buying gifts should never compromise your everyday expenses and things you and your family really need. The best gift you can give to anyone is a happy you who is not stressed out about how you will pay for these purchases. And in reality the best part of the holiday is the fact that you get to spend it (hopefully) with people that you love and who don't measure you by the kind of gifts they receive from you.  That and all the yummy holiday foods!

The easiest way to save for Christmas is saving a little every month throughout the year, but If you haven't started don't freak out.  Meaningful gifts don't have to be expensive, you just need to know how much you can spend!

Here is what I do to establish a Christmas Shopping Budget:

1. Make a list of people that I want to buy gifts for. (I love my lists :) )

2. Find out what is your total amount that you can afford/would like to spend.   This is probably the most difficult step of this process.  I usually look at my savings account and take a % of the total amount in there and come up with a reasonable amount that still leaves me with a good safety net.  If savings is low, then I usually try to cut out some other expenses over the next couple of months.

3. Prioritize your gift list: Who do you want to give gifts most to? For me I would put my baby-girl on top, then other family, and my spouse, and last office exchanges and such.  Then decide how much of your budget you will spend on each person. For sure my budget had shifted in recent years as I've become older and less gift centered.

4.Establish clear expectation with friends/family about gift giving guidelines.  For example, years ago I had told all my friends that there is no need for us to exchange gifts anymore.   Each year we all went out and bought each other something in the $25-$50 range and ended up spending couple hundred dollars, and in exchange getting stuff we didn't really want or need.   So instead I now host a wine exchange party for my girl friends just before Christmas, and we all buy bottles of our favorite wines and exchange them. (This year will be our 4th annual vino exchange. Geeesh this makes me think back, when we first started we were all single now we're all married 1/2 with babies! )    It's a win win!  We all love a little vino and it's definitely something useful especially around the holidays!   I've also heard of cookie exchange parties, so if wine is not your thing that is another option! Also with my husband we only buy each other something small, and we both know it and don't go out buying something big!

5.  Keep track of all your holiday purchases to make sure your are sticking to your budget.   If you have overspent on one person, you should try to cut back elsewhere.   I don't recommend going over your budget, since you don't want to create a financial burden for yourself.   That alone will create stress & ruin the holidays.  If you are done shopping and got great sales, don't be tempted to reach your budget amount!  Stick that amount back in the savings and get a head start on next year!

Additional Holiday Shopping Tips:

Get your shopping done early!   The earlier you start the more options you have and won't have to settle for last minute gifts.  It's amazing how easily things jump & ideas jump at you when you start early vs. scrambling the last minute!

Don't forget about budgeting for gift bags / cards / wrapping paper!  Your local dollar store is probably a great way to save on those!

Do you have any tips for holiday shopping & savings?

If I had to pick one meal a day as my favorite, breakfast would win hands down. I could eat breakfast food for lunch and dinner as well, but in order to eat a well balanced diet I force myself not to. It's the one meal when you can splurge and eat and you still have the whole day to burn away the calories. French toast is such a yummy classic breakfast treat, but over the last few years it got a bad rep health-wise. Here is a version that I make on the weekends! Instead of using white/Italian bread I use oat bread for my recipe.  One thing to note that since it's a harder bread you have to let it soak for a while!

2 Eggs
2/3 Cup of Organic Milk (I use whole milk, but you can reduce calories by using low or non fat)
2 Teaspoon of Vanilla extract (I like the strong vanilla flavor so I use a lot!)
1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1/3 Teaspoon Cinnamon (you can use less or more based on how strong you want the cinnamon flavor!) Your Favorite Brand of healthy bread (oat, wholegrain, multigrain.. whichever!)

Mix everything together well. Diagonally cut bread in half, let it soak for a good 10-15 min. I cook mine on an electric griddle that has a non stick surface. Make sure you don't use metal spatula's to flip them since they can damage the non-stick surface which can release harmful chemicals into your food!  If I have extra batter left I will dip the already cooked slices again and cook again!  I love to eat mine plain with just some fruit, but you can add whatever syrup you desire!

This morning is a big day for us. I'm taking Emma for her 9 month checkup and will find out how much she has grown since her 6 month checkup! These appointments take on a whole new meaning once you have a preemie baby and it can get hard to not to obsess about all the growth charts! But i'm trying my best not to drive myself nuts with it and try to remind myself that she is very healty and doing exceptionally well for a preemie! :) My outfit today is pretty simple & comfortable, perfect for a day of errands. The top was a birthday gift from a friend of mine, and I really like it. I can be a difficult person to shop for but she got this tee right! Since I have munchkin with me I opted for an infinity scarf instead of jewelry since she thinks ripping mommies necklaces off is really fun. Hope you all have a nice weekend and don't forget to link up below!

So last couple of weeks I noticed something.   Two tone boots are popping up everywhere!  I purchased one at TJMaxx a little over a month ago, and I think since then I've been noticing them a whole lot more.  I sorta dig this trend, I think it gives something extra to these boots! Here are a few that I like, including the pair that I own!

1. Mark Fisher Two Tone Riding Boots - Get it here
2. Ralph Lauren Vachetta Two Tone Riding Boots - Get it here
3. My Favorite & The one I own: BCBG Malino Knee High Boots (purchased mine @ TJMaxx $125) - Get it here

Also as the title suggest, here is a scarf I have ordered from the GAP.  It cost me $13 (30% off & free shipping for cardholders, it's pretty neat, not matter how little your order is you get free shipping if you're a cardholder!! ).  Love the navy red stripes!  It's super lightweight and comfortable knit material.  And if you follow me on Instagram, you may just see a picture of me wearing it later on today! :)

This AM it was still online, but now it's sold out online! So check stores! Or Get Similar Here or Here

Here is another item from my recent online shopping spree! This BR sweater has a hundstooth pattern, and absolutely love the subtle print & color. (They also have it navy/ivory if you are more bold!) Paired it with my brown skinny jeans and peach color tank.  Love the warm and cozy feel of this color combo!   Paired it with black boots.  I always try to make sure that my boots color it different than my pants color, I just think it looks better and doesn't blend in so much.  So I will wear my black boots with anything that is not black, and when I wear black pants I will mix it with brown or cognac boots!

I've been loving my red pants lately! I got this flare one, but I also have a pair of skinnies in red that I've been wearing a lot lately. I think red makes me feel like the holidays are coming! I absolutely love the holidays! Can't wait till I can blast my Christmas music in my car, the day after Thanksgiving! Which reminds me that I really need to start my Christmas shopping. Every year I make sure I get done before Thanksgiving, since I'm not exactly a huge fan of the crazed holiday shoppers! Ever since I worked at the mall in high school / college, I make every effort to avoid the mall and surrounding areas after Thanksgiving! The sheer volume of people and traffic is enough to send me into orbit! Are you brave enough to shop close to the holidays?
