PREPPY MINT STRIPES

Monday, February 25, 2013

Hope you guys had a great weekend! Ours was packed with stuff and I even ate out two night in a row! Wow! I rarely every go out to eat, but grabbed a bite of Mexican food with a friend and miss Emma Saturday night then had Indian food with my husband last night! It's nice to get a break from cooking :). Miss Emma also took a few wobbly steps, and getting better at it every day, so walking is in the very near distance! I also reached a big milestone this week and this may be TMI for some of you but I packed up my pump and I'm done! I love having the extra time! After 13 months I just can't do it anymore. And Miss Emma seems to really like regular milk so I don't even feel one least bad. Today's outfit is pretty simple, just a basic tunic sweater (with some awesome little details) and skinny pants and boots, my go to outfit thorough the winter months!

This is why my posts have been on the shorter side, my mind is spinning in overload trying to decide what is best for me and my little family!  My outfit today is very simple but the polka dot scarf adds a little fun to it.  I'm also really liking all the hi-lo tops out there now, it's a fun alternative to just a basic tee/sweater.  Hope you guys will have an awesome weekend and don't forget to linkup!

BLACK, WHITE & MY LOFT POLKA DOT JEANS

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

I've been really wanting to wear these dotted pants, but for some reason it didn't feel right to wear these with boots. This week (well except for freezing Monday) the weather has been a tad warmer, like above the freezing point so figured I would give it a go and wear it with my flats. Today I opted for a classic combo of black and white (ish). Polka dots, stripes and leopard print. Yup. In one outfit!

GAP GREEN STRIPE SWEATER & SKINNIES

Monday, February 18, 2013

Happy Happy Monday!!  I'm one of the few lucky ones that has to work today!   So to compensate for having to work and deal with the super cold and windy weather condition outside I went with this cozy sweater.  It's over-sized and soft cotton.  No itchiness here!   Love the bright green color!  So this weekend I went to the LOFT and bought way to many tops.  Ugh.  They had a whole bunch of things that are not even online, and with the sale and a few coupons I had I could not resists :)   My favorite piece that I picked up is a floral/stripe lightweight sweater that if you follow me on Instagram you may have already seen!!  I also scored a super cute black and floral dress on clearance for only $22, and a few belts for $4 each!

BE MY VALENTINE: RED, BLACK & LEOPARD

Sunday, February 17, 2013

Although we didn't get to really go out for Valentine's Day, I still decided to dress up for a mini dinner at home. We celebrated last night!  He had to work Valentines' Day and I been sick with a cold, so our Valentines Day got a bit delayed!  My husband and I work opposite schedules so the only time we really see each other is on his days off (he work 4 days then has 3 days off).   And that means that 99% of the time he sees me in sweat pants & one big messy bun!  So I figured it would be fun.  Still kept it comfortable with flats and a super stretchy ponte skirt!   Would you dress up for a stay-in date?

OUTFIT DETAILS

{Skirt}Express Embellished Black Ponte Mini Skirt (few years old!)

LOTS OF BOWS & POP OF BRIGHT {eShakti Review}

Friday, February 15, 2013

Today's outfit involves lots of bows and a bright cardigan.   The bow print blouse I'm wearing was gifted to me by eShakti, a fairly new brand that allows you to fully customize your items.   It can make your tops / skirts longer or shorter, adjust for your bust size or hips size etc.    Ordering is very simple, you just enter a few of your measurements to ensure a perfect fit.  They also offer standard sizing, if you usually fit regular sized items.   I love this bow print blouse. I ordered a size S, and it fit me perfect.   The sizing does run small and it's more in line with a European size Small.   The blouse has cascading ruffles and also a fully removable matching fabric belt.    As far as quality goes it's pretty good, probably in line with LOFT / The Limited  or GAP items.  This blouse is 100% polyester.   I can see this blouse getting quite a lot of use in the upcoming months!   The subtle natural print color will allow me to wear it with many different colors.  Also the ability to remove the belt and move it higher/lower or even outside the cardigan makes this piece even more versatile!    I even played around with using the belt as a bow around the neck, which is another trend that is popping up everywhere!    Have a great weekend everyone and don't forget to link up below!

FOR MY VALENTINE - VANILLA COCONUT CUPCAKES

Thursday, February 14, 2013

My husband and I don't make a huge deal out of Valentine's Day.  We try to do something small for each other to show our love & appreciation for one other.   This year he has to work on Valentines Day, and by the time he gets home from work chances are I will be sleeping!   So I decided to leave him a little sweet treat for when he gets home from a long day.  As health conscientious he is, he has a bit of a sweet tooth.   So I whipped up these cupcakes.  It's sorta healthy, I mean it's all organic ingredients so it's gotta be good for you right?

Vanilla Coconut Cupcakes Recipe with Vanilla Butter-cream Frosting

1 stick of softened organic butter (1/2 cup)
3/4 Cup Sugar
2 Eggs
3 Tablespoon vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 Teaspoon baking powder
1/4 Teaspoon salt
1 Cup of Coconut Flakes
2/3 cup cold organic milk
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar then add eggs 1 at a time, beating after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
In a separate bowl, mix together all dry ingredients. Add to butter mixture and stir in milk. Mix in coconut flakes.   Bake at 350°F for about 20 minutes (depending on your oven).  This will yield 12 Cupcakes.

Frosting:
2 sticks of organic butter, softened (1 cup)
3 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
1 teaspoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
dash of salt
In a bowl combine the softened butter, sugar and the salt.  Mix till it's fully blended.  Add the milk and the vanilla and mix until it's creamy in texture.

Have fun decorating!   You can also add food color to the butter-cream frosting to make it pink or whatever color you prefer!   Sprinkle cupcakes and you're all done!  (I got the heart/lips sprinkles at Homegoods!)

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY FRIENDS!!

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

Happy Wednesday! Today's post will be short & sweet! Both baby and me came down with a bit of a cold, so my brain is a bit fogged up. But wanted to share this sweater. Old Navy did it again. They have came out with a whole new batch of graphic sweaters! (remember the owl & fox ones??) I saw this Cherry sweater, when they had 25% off and purchased immediately online! I also got the one that says Love across the chest in light grey! It's soft and lightweight and a great price! Will be perfect to carry me into spring!  I just hope these graphic sweaters stay in style for while since I did my fair share of stocking up on them.

ROCK OF EDEN - KARMA NECKLACE {REVIEW}

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

So yesterday's post involved a crazy close up of me to show off my new necklace that was kindly given to me by the friendly people over at Rock of Eden. It's a new jewelry business out of California, specializing in fun and edgy jewelry. They sent me the "Karma" necklace for review, and I absolutely love it. It's dainty and pretty rose gold color (gold pleated), which we all know is the it jewelry color right now. I love that it is adjustable so I can layer it easily with other necklaces I already own. It came beautifully packaged with a handwritten Thank You note.  You won't be getting friendly service like this from a big old jewelry store.   I love jewelry that has special meaning, and we all the know the saying that Karma is a (blank, insert you know what word).  It's a little reminder to be a better person.   It's a little reminder that if you do good, good things will happen to you!   We could all use a little more good in our lives right? Get my "Karma" necklace HERE

And with Valentines Day coming up they have some perfect pieces to give to your Valentine!  Shop the collection HERE.
Not into Valentines Day? Rolling Solo? They also have a selection of anti-Valentine Jewelry!

COZY, COLORFUL & WARM AZTEC OPEN CARDI

Monday, February 11, 2013

Phewwww.  What a weekend you guys.   The weatherman got it right.   Unusual but they got it right. It was as bad as they had anticipated.   It's a miracle we didn't loose power.  Of course we won't anymore since we actually finally bought a generator & installed proper hookup for it.    We loose power a lot around here!   We are pretty much dug out from under nearly 3 foot of snow.   2 days of cleaning up, shoveling and cleaning the roofs to avoid leaks into the house.   Poor husband is a bit sore.    For the most part I had to watch the baby ;).    So today as I venture into work, I wore this warm and cozy sweater I got at ASOS few months ago.   Who knows what the ride into work will hold today, might as well be warm and cozy.   That reminds me, I really should have filled my gas tank just in case.  Ooops.   Sweet husby might be getting a call.   That is if I get stuck or something.
